Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen Auctioning Off His Guitars...

Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen is on record proclaiming that he owns over 400 guitars. While some people color-coordinate their sneakers to their clothes, Nielsen's six-string collection is so stacked that he often matches his outfit to his guitar.

Earlier this year, Nielsen announced plans to create space in his arsenal by auctioning off some of his instruments and other equipment through Reverb. Just one month into the sell-off, his guitars are already being sold at four-digit prices.

"I love guitars and guitars love me, but sometimes they need new homes where they can live to rock another day. I've teamed up with my pals here at Reverb to get some gems from my private collection into new hands. From amps and pedals to guitars old and new, if it makes music, I love it and you will too,"

Nielsen wrote on the Reverb site (via Ultimate Classic Rock). "The first batch of guitars went quick, but stay tuned: there'll be more for sale in the future..."

So far, Nielsen's biggest seller was his 1956 Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Junior, which sold for $5,760, or significantly less than a bag of Kanye West's air. However, Neilsen has since put his 1959 Gibson ES-330T Mint Collector Grade on Reverb, and that guitar has already racked up a $6,800 bid with three days left in the auction.

While Nielsen has also offered up some of his more eye-catching axes – like his Dean Psychobilly Cabbie, his Fender Floral Tele and his "Nash Fucker Shitblaster" – he hasn't – and probably won't – put his trademark custom-made, five-necked checkerboard guitar on the block.
