Guitar prodigy Andreas Varady's debut hits Aug. 5

Keep an eye, and ear, on guitar prodigy Andreas Varady, who at 16 is already building a buzz here and abroad.

His self-titled debut arrives on Verve Records Aug. 5, preceded by four-song EP Come Together, out June 17. Hear the jazzy acoustic track, Swing 42, at GuitarWorld.com.

Varady raided his parents' record collection to forge his sound, a blend of Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Django Reinhardt.

The Quincy Jones protégé landed on the cover of Guitar Player in 2012.

"Andreas is the complete package," Jones said in a release. "He's a 360-degree musician whose knowledge and appreciation for all genres, from jazz and hip-hop to rock and pop, can be felt in his music."

Producer David Foster, chairman of Verve Music Group, adds, "There are a lot of 'young guns' out there, but what makes Andreas different is his mind-blowing maturity. He thinks like a seasoned pro who has been doing this for 40 years and yet he brings a youthfulness to his music that is so refreshing."
